WOF hosted a COVID-19 Moment of Reflection to show unity and support as an organization to acknowledge the work of our frontline workers, those affected by COVID-19 and recognize the need to unite as humanity.
Background information
The COVID-19 pandemic has made a significant impact in our lives, affecting millions of people globally, thousands of people in South Africa. Some people are either sick, recovered, supporting family members or friends, and worse still succumb to it. To date South Africa has lost 12 423 people with 596 060 positive cases.
Mental health and wellbeing of our society has been severely impacted by COVID-19; many people are distressed due to the immediate impact of the virus and consequences of physical isolation. The fear of infection, dying, losing family members, worrying about children, and the stress related to economic situations is prominent.
Over the past 5 months, South Africans have had to adapt to life in Lockdown to help flatten the curve, and this included adjusting to government regulations (social distancing, wearing a mask, washing hands/sanitizing) and the economy has been affected as many sectors closed down, many having a reduced income, and no-one could have prepared us for this. We had to adapt to the new normal – heightened hygiene practices in our everyday actions at home, work, shopping, etc. A common cold or flu has the potential to become COVID-19.
Purpose and objective
COVID-19 MOMENT OF REFLECTION, FRIDAY 28 AUGUST 2020 at 10AM – on this date you are invited to unite as part of the WOF Family, to observe a moment of silence to ask for protection against COVID-19, to ask for healing or relief for those who are affected, give thanks, support and honor our frontline workers for their commitment and at the same time pay respect to those who have succumbed to the disease.
WOF CALL FOR UNITY
