Kishugu believes in the power of the collective and is all about breaking ground in pursuit of discovering innovative solutions by empowering others, aiming to make a social, economic and environmental impact beyond expectations and borders.

Therefore, Kishugu prides itself in its partnerships, leading to the successes it is celebrating today. The official launch of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environments (DFFE), EPWP Working on Fire (WoF) Programme, in September 2003 was the result of extensive local and international research on fighting unwanted wildfires, in which Kishugu, the programme’s implementor, took the lead. Kishugu Aviation, Kishugu Fleet Solutions and Kishugu Training all form part of the success to fight wildland fires in South Africa.

According to Emile Grobbelaar, CEO of Kishugu Aviation, this is seen as the most successful job creation and skills upliftment programme in the history of South Africa. “Kishugu has a longstanding partnership with DFFE and proudly celebrates 18 years of success in building and maintaining these positive working relationships,” said Grobbelaar.

“During a fire season, disaster management relies on the effective partnerships between WoF – backed by Kishugu – its landowners, local, provincial and national governments, and the Fire Protection Associations (FPAs). Only through healthy relations and open, transparent communication can a partnership successfully save lives, property and the environment.”

MD of the WoF Programme Trevor Abrahams says WoF employs more than 5,000 men and women come from marginalised communities, of which 94% are youth, 33% are women, and 3% are people with disabilities.

“Our firefighters are stationed at 196 bases across South Africa. They receive training on the highest standards, and Kishugu Aviation’s aerial teams work closely with the WoF ground teams to combat wildfires.”

With the Summer Fire Season soon coming to an end in the southern parts of our country, Kishugu Aviation thanks all its ground teams and partners who successfully combatted wildfires in this region. As the air wing of the WoF Programme, Kishugu Aviation celebrates its successful partnerships in the southern parts of our country, where aerial resources are much needed.
